Version history

PromptsVault snapshots every edit you make to a prompt. The full history is one click away, and restoring an older version is non-destructive.

How snapshots work

  • Every successful edit creates a new immutable snapshot.
  • A version counter on the prompt card increments with each change.
  • Up to 30 snapshots are kept per prompt. Older snapshots beyond that, or older than 90 days, are purged automatically.

You cannot accidentally delete a snapshot through the UI. The cleanup runs on a schedule in the database.

Open the history

  1. Open a prompt's three-dot menu (⋮).
  2. Choose Version history.
  3. The panel lists every snapshot with timestamps and a short diff against the current version.

Compare two versions

Inside the version history panel:

  • Click any older snapshot to see the diff against the current content.
  • Adds appear in green, removes in red, context in muted text.

Restore an older version

Click Restore on any snapshot. This does not overwrite history. It creates a new snapshot with the restored content, so the version counter increments by one and the older snapshots stay intact. You can change your mind and restore back at any time.

Version history on AI tools

The same system runs on entries in the AI tools section. Restore, diff, and retention work identically.
